Fauja Singh, known as the “Turbaned Tornado,” started running marathons at the age of 89 after losing his wife and son. He went on to complete nine marathons and became the first 100-year-old to finish a full marathon in 2011. His story proves it’s never too late to start, and that strength comes from within.
In 1980, after losing his right leg to cancer, Terry Fox set out to run across Canada to raise awareness and funds for cancer research. He ran a marathon distance every day for 143 days, covering 5,373 km before his cancer returned. Terry’s courage and selflessness turned him into a national hero and a symbol of perseverance.
In 1967, Kathrine Switzer became the first woman to officially run the Boston Marathon, despite attempts by race officials to physically remove her from the course. Her fearless run opened doors for women in sports and proved that determination can shatter stereotypes.
